blueberry picking

a few weeks ago, we attempted to head out early morning to a u-pick blueberry farm on the northside of jacksonville. anticipating the unbearable heat, we planned on heading out there around 8:30 a.m. after oversleeping, a couple cups of coffee, loading up and then having difficulty getting there we finally arrived just before lunch. although it was quite close to being unbearable, we all vowed that we would return much earlier, since the blueberries were absolutely delicious!

24 hours of "firsts"
after consuming a delicious margarita at o'brothers pub with good friends, i headed over to springfield to shoot some photos of my friend josh lee. he's playing in the riverside arts market in a couple of weeks so he needed some promo shots. as springfield isn't the safest place you could be in jacksonville around dusk, there were a couple times we had to hit the road and move on. without further ado...my first attempt at taking photos of a musician...
first attempt @ ebay...
i probably should have done a little more research before i just went ahead and listed it...but here goes it...

simple (& delicious) suppers

In our quest to eat out less (/save $$$) and spend more time cooking (/expand our culinary skills,) I've been on the hunt for recipes that are easy, healthful, and enjoyable to make. Sunday, early afternoon, now consists of Jim watching golf, falling inand out of sleep, saving all his energy for frisbee and me pulling all my favorite cookbooks off the shelves to get inspired. Initially, I had no idea where to start. We have SO many cookbooks that range from Bobby Flay to Jim's grandmother's churches fundraising cookbook. Deciding on each day's meal, I had to also remind myself that I would be eating dinner for lunch the next day... I better really like this.
Bring in Moosewood Restaurant's Simple Suppers, Fresh Ideas for the Weeknight Table. I need to confess that I purchased this cookbook purely on its engaging and beautiful front cover...and it was on sale at Williams-Sonoma, but EVERY SINGLE RECIPE we've tried, we've LOVED! Once I've marked the pages to create my grocery list, I'm always shocked at how little I need to purchase at the grocery store. And perhaps that's why I love it: simple and clean flavors--what my philosophy to cooking is starting to truly revolve around.
Here's a little more about this fantastic restaurant:
"With our emphasis on healthful natural foods cuisine, Moosewood Restaurant has operated successfully for thirty-three years and has been acclaimed as a driving force in the world of creative vegetarian cooking. Moosewood was named one of the thirteen most influential restaurants of the 20th Century by Bon Appetit magazine. We started in an era when many alternative businesses began, and we feel incredibly grateful to have endured, thrived and had a positive impact." (http://www.moosewoodrestaurant.com/aboutus.html)
